King Of The Underdogs! Holley LS Fest 2013

It’s no surprise that Holley’s LS fest is on the NLR calendar. We've gone every year and we developed a Group of friends that seem to meet up for just this one event.
The track was simply awesome this year. This particular track will play out to those with “large tires” lots of sweepers will play to allot of grip.
-
The field was stacked too! I never got an official car count, but the auto-x had over 90 entrants.
-
One surprise was the amount of LS powered miatas at this event. Parking spots (staging lanes to auto x people) where at a premium. So we staked out 3 spots with traffic cones, but all 3 miatas fit into 2 spots. I guess the organizers were expecting the cars to be a bit larger. We gave our extra spot to this grand sport. We let him be a part of the MIATA MAFIA!!

Remember what I said about large tires? This is Danny Popp’s car. It has 335mm tires on all 4 corners.
-
Here are my tires. They come out to a whopping 225mm. they are cute but let’s see how they do..
-
Danny was at the Top of the boards all weekend. He was the only car that had a sub 36sec lap. Everyone was trying to chase him down.
-
-
I was struggling to get into the top 5. The high noon shootout only takes the top 5 drivers and I was sitting 6th
-
A cool note is Danny’s c3 corvette was owned by Danny’s dad. Danny said that his father bought the car when he was 6 years old!!
-
Anyone who knows Danny you know how fast he is.. I was sitting in 6th place still. The high noon shootout was about to be announced. Something needed to happen or I wouldn’t make it in…
-
If you also know Danny you’ll know he’s a car breaker. He will squeeze every last amount of every part on his car. Good news for me Danny didn’t have a spear and I made it into the shootout!!
-
The top 5 Cars of the event.
-
Kyle and the DSE crew where hard to beat. All day I couldn’t beat their time.  In this event it didn’t matter what you ran before. It only matters what you run in this event.. Kyle scored a 36.304
-
Finch did better with a 36.218
-
I knew that everyone would over heat and over drive in the first run. Knowing that the first run is when your tires will perform the best, I took a big breath and promised myself I wouldn’t over drive the car.

I put down one of the fastest times of the day. @ 36.099. I was then asked to go do a smokey burnout.
-
I had been fighting for so long to win this event and it happened..
-
This guy came in the mail!!
-
Horsepower TV interviewed me
-
Then there was much rejoicing!!
-
-
Just when I was feeling good about myself I went out of my comfort zone, and went drag racing. If you have ever had a high horse power car, with tiny, STREET tires, on a drag strip, you’ll know how scary it can be.
-
This was the best I could do. It’s alright :P

I need to take a moment and thank everyone:
-My wife for being perfect in every way.
-My parents for raising me to be pig headed and to fight for the things that I want.
- The miata mafia for being awesome friends and the best fans ever.
-The sponsors! Holley, Flyin Miata, MTI racing, And Nine Lives Racing!!
We’ll be back next year looking for the Championship!!

But what about Danny?

Don’t worry about Danny he won the rest of the events. He’ll take all his other trophies home and sulk. Just look how sad he is.. poor little guy..
